Full-time
QCVV Theorist – Quantum Metrologist
Job Summary
Yaqumo is seeking a researcher with a background in quantum characterisation, verification and validation, able to design and carry out experiments for assessing the performance of neutral atom quantum computers. The presence of unwanted noise on quantum hardware is a key hurdle for practical computation and this role will focus on extracting accurate information about device noise from experimental data.
This role involves designing experiments to evaluate performance metrics, identify correlations and unaccounted noise sources, and provide insights into pathways for improving neutral atom quantum devices. This includes working together with experimentalists to run experiments and to turn measurement data into actionable feedback aimed at improving device fidelities by eliminating or mitigating noise. Furthermore, it includes working with theorists to develop accurate simulations and predictive models for the performance of quantum hardware.
Responsibilities
- Design and carry out experiments that identify and isolate physical error mechanisms impacting performance, including systems with leakage.
- Quantify device performance with experiments at the physical and logical levels.
- Collaborate with experimental physicists and control engineers to improve device performance.
- Collaborate with quantum information theorists to translate device characterisation data into models with strong predictive capabilities for device performance.
- Develop data analysis tools to process experimental data for benchmarking.
Required Qualifications
- PhD or equivalent in Quantum Information, Physics, Computer Science or Mathematics.
- Experience with QCVV methods such as randomised benchmarking, cycle benchmarking, in-situ benchmarking, gate set tomography, process tomography, or shadow tomography, with relevant experience in research publication.
- Experience using Python for data acquisition and analysis.
- Familiarity with quantum error correction and schemes for fault-tolerance.
- Ability to work alongside and collaborate with people across the diverse disciplines of engineering, experimental physics and software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with experimental data and characterising quantum hardware.
- Experience running quantum error correction experiments on physical hardware.
- Familiarity with AMO physics, particularly in neutral atom systems and Rydberg physics.
Hiring Process
Application Review → First Interview → Second Interview → Final Interview
- Depending on the position, candidates may be asked to complete a technical assignment after the first interview.
- We place a strong emphasis on mutual understanding throughout the hiring process. Depending on the role and evaluation process, additional interviews, informal meetings with team members, or offer discussions may be arranged.
